In these four sets of prints, I wanted to capture the essence of the dead trees that intrigue me in the places I hike, especially their unique shapes, textures, and presence. My initial work on this project was a series of photographs of the trees in their natural environment with grass, clouds and weather. It didn’t seem to work, and I found that the background detracted from what I saw in my mind. Experimentation led me to manually extract the images from the original photographs and place them on a variety of different backgrounds.
